Downstairs Tiling

The downstairs bath was tiled, and the mythical "pool room" was begun. Unfortunately we're now out of tile and will have to wait a while...

Stair Edges and Tile

Some work on the hardwood edging of the stairs and tile finished in the main level bath. Also some work on leveling the floor in the downstairs bath.

Vanity Cabinets (Laundry too)

The vanity and laundry cabinetry was finally installed - at least the drawers are set. The master and guest bath's are strikingly similar to our Syracuse home, while the other baths are the warm tan that will also grace the kitchen. The laundry is au natural.

One Coat Down

The accent tile was placed, and the majority of the main floor tiled (the bathroom excepted). The wood floor was stained last night, and the first coat of finish applied this morning - the second coat to be delivered this evening. Nice and shiny.

Cabinet Doors and Unstained Floors

The floors were all prepped for stain today and tonight are being stained. The cabinet makers didn't quite make their own deadline (again), but at least we have some evidence that they're being worked on. Stephanie visited the shop and you can see that they're getting there...

Socks Only

Okay, so it's only one room, but tomorrow the staining of the remainder of the main floor begins - and we're definitely ready. Beyond that some more tile was laid, and the exterior siding work (including the fixing of the upper porch) was completed.

Footers, Grout, and Flooring

Happy day. Much was done. Footers and end caps for the headers were finally placed. The upper floor tile was grouted, and the main floor tiling was begun. The main wooden floors were patched and sanded. There was much rejoicing.

Shiny Floors

What a difference a little bit of shine makes. It's tough to appreciate the tone of the floor in the sunshine, but you can see the differences in tone in direct vs indirect light. It's much more red
in indirect light. Grandpa/Dad H. and I moved all of the trim and scaffolding out of the kitchen area so our tile man can get to work. Hopefully that'll be soon.

Staining Floors

The library floor is prepped for it's final sanding, and the living room is stained. We trust that this will look quite different when finished (at least Stephanie sure hopes so!). Also pictured are the tools of the hardwood trade.

Windowed Door, Covered Floor

After languishing in darkness for much too long our mudroom door gained a window today. It really opens this area up, and we're glad of the change. The hardwood floor is now all installed on the main, and the installer is now getting ready to finish the living room floor as a "test run" with our special stain. The tile folks did cut all the corners (but we asked them to) and we're hoping that some of the floor will actually be installed tomorrow.

Sanding and Cutting

Today the wood floor was nearly completely finished on the main level. The far east part of the dining room and the stairs are still to go. The installers also completed the first run on the library and living room floors with their sander. You can finally see the interweave detail on the hearth floor (thanks to Stephanie for looking at different patterns). Our tile guys also reappeared and got to work on cutting the diamonds for the kitchen floor.

Hearth and Home

Apparently today was early out at the house since our hardwood installer only worked half-day. He did get the area around the hearth done in the gathering room, and some more of the entryway done.

More Floor

A bit more wood floor at the entry and around the gathering room, as well as a finished acrylic floor downstairs. Now we just need someone to mop up...
