Shingles Down and Planning Ahead

Though it's hard to see, some shingles have been put down on the southwest part of the roof. We've really had only one guy working on the house the past two days, so there's not a lot of progress, but
some is better than none. Dad (Grandpa Hancock) and I spent a good part of the morning getting caught up on the coordination of the contractors, and hopefully will be getting the work set-up for not
only the interior (starting with plumbing this next week), but the exterior as well.

Felt Roof

Today saw some work completed on the roof, with the drip edge being installed and the felt across the south face of the main gable. Our framers have gone deer hunting, so we'll be waiting a while longer for the stairs to be completed :) . Hopefully we'll have the comprehensive landscape design finished well enough that we can get bids on the driveway retaining wall and the back patio bid out.

Wrapped Up and Shingles Delivered

The house wrapping was finished up today, as was the placement of the windows. Especially nice are the windows around the front door. Our roofers also came by to drop off the shingles. We're hoping we get some roof on tomorrow. Yet to be done are the stairs...(and exterior
doors)

Wrapping it Up

Three sides are now wrapped up with the windows in place - and my doesn't it look great! Once again the framers have been able to avoid working on the stairs :). Actually, we're very pleased with all the progress, and the Milgard windows are quite nice. The roofers should be here tomorrow or early Thursday, and then hopefully we'll be on to the plumbing and electrical...

Porch, Window and Stairs

The new porch trusses are up and sheathed - and my what a difference it makes! This is one of those moments that we are very glad to be here overseeing the work. We also noted over the weekend that the center window above the garage was too low to allow for the shutter to be placed on the east side so that window got moved up. Downstairs the family room fireplace was boxed in and finally the stairs up were begun! Stephanie mentioned to the framers that we were really excited to see them done. Our framer replied by saying that he was really excited to not do them... ;)

Venting and Framing

Today (at long last) the basement was framed. Our framers had been holding off on this for "a rainy day" but with not much left to do except the front porch and the stairs (which we think they've been putting off on purpose - since we want to see them so much!), they actually finished the basement. They also did a very nice job of getting almost everything cleaned up inside. Our plumbers also dropped by, and hopped up on the roof to put the vents in place in
preparation for the roofers, who'll be here next week!

Lots of Little Stuff

Though we've taken a step back on the front porch so to speak - the Kelly framers did a lot of good odd jobs today. The first picture is the wall between the utility room and storage room downstairs. Next is the arch entry into the living room, a mirror of that was created for the dining room entry. The next photo is the box for the see-through fireplace between the library and the living room. Next is the fireplace for the master bedroom (with a Charlotte curio as decoration). Next to last is the little shelf behind the stairs and the box to accommodate attic access.  Last is a photo of the wonderful frame for our sheet metal roof over the dining room bay. Not bad for a day's work eh? We also got the exterior doors ordered today, and we hope to have the new trusses for the front porch tomorrow morning. Whew!

Porch Trusses

The trusses are up for the front porch, but now that they're up they look a bit taller (more steeply pitched) than we'd intended. We'll need to talk with our truss supplier in the morning to get this
straightened out.

Gables and Arches

More finish work today on the corners of the eaves and the gables. It's hard to see here, but beneath the gables we now have little lips of roof that will help to break up the front when the siding is in place. You can also see the arch into the "childrens study", and the frame for the kitchen pocket door. Neat stuff!

Gables Up!

Today it looks as if it's nearly done outside! There's still a bit to finish, like the porch roof and the dutch gable roof lines but otherwise we're nearly there. Can't wait to have this done an the
interior finished. Dad/Grandpa H. is getting all the other contractors lined up to begin soon.

With the good help of my friend/colleague Dallin and the Kelly's lift, we also got the tubs up into the bathrooms. You can see the girls enjoying their first bath above.

Sheathing The Roof

Now that the eaves are mostly complete and the half the gables in place, work was done on getting the sheathing on. Looks like a nice house made of particle board doesn't it?

And Some Lean Gables

Neat to see how the gables and eaves are placed. This is pretty labor intensive, especially when you compare the time needed to how quick the trusses went up.

Raise the Roof

Excitement abounds as the roof trusses were put in place and the majority of the sheathing on. Just some gables and eves to go and then finishing up the interior. We can't wait!

Gables and Attic Trusses

How nice to see some roof lines coming together. Today with a lot of good hard work by the framers we now have the "garage gables" in place. Included in the pictures is the interior view with a nice view of the attic trusses giving access to the front window. Stephanie's comment was that this is her "new favorite place in the house". Guess I'm glad that I made the decision on the attic trusses!

Sheathing Done On to the Trusses

Second story sheathing done today, with the end roof trusses also sheathed. Apparently on Tuesday the trusses will be raised. Let's just pray for minimal rain/snow over the weekend!

Roof Truss Delivery

A cold day with a few actual flakes of snow. Feels like we just got done with this weather - oh, I guess that's true. Our last considerable snowfall was back in June.

Second Story Sheathing

More sheathing up today on the second story. A somewhat precarious job that we're glad we're not doing ourselves.

There's Stairs Upstairs!

Woohoo, finally a set of stairs to ascend to the second floor. We'll be forever grateful to Marshall for this great idea of a "back staircase", instituted in the Hancock Home 1.0, and now making it's debut in Hancock Home 2.0 - trusses should be arriving soon!
