It doesn't look like much, but hopefully it's another day closer to painting. Not much else was done at the house today - we're hopeful that at least some work is being done on the mantles and cabinets elsewhere.
One of our favorite quotes from the new movie Bolt is "Let it Begin, Let it BEGIN!" It's starting to feel like we're in the final stretch with just the painting to go before the finishing touches are put into place. Our hardwood guy was here today to put some finishing touches on the stairs, and the cultured marble vanity in our master bedroom was also delivered.
We today saw the finish of the downstairs rail, and the unbinding of the entry railing. As you can see one post was also placed, but that's about all. The next challenge is getting the rest of the contractors back to finish up their work.
As hoped the granite countertops were delivered and placed - so to were the sinks. The remaining stair rails were nearly finished, and the center laths in the entry handrail were placed and it's all glued and clamped, hopefully to emerge a finished rail!
On an unseasonably warm evening the alpenglow of the sunset struck the house particularly picturesquely. We were also pleased with the good work of our finish carpenter who finished off the baseboard and is nearing the end of the work on the handrails as well. Pictured for your appreciation is the forms used in this patient process.
Our finish carpenter put in a full day installing the rods in the closets, placing the baseboard on the main floor, and re-doing the arches in the main hall so that they match the entry arch. He also very carefully worked on getting the second lath of the handrail bent.
Today the remainder of the shelving was installed in the gathering room (sans the hearth), and some trim pieces placed on the benches in the mudroom. Our finish carpenter worked along at bending the stair rail slowly and finishing up the baseboard in the basement.
Happy day: the shelving was installed in the library and downstairs in the family room. Sad day: after waiting many weeks for our replacement railing to arrive one of the pieces cracked while being shaped. Guess we'll wait to see what the new day brings...
